Product Description 

The Ultracortex is an open-source, 3D-printable headset intended to work with any OpenBCI Board. It is capable of recording research-grade brain activity (EEG), muscle activity (EMG), and heart activity (ECG). The Ultracortex Mark III "Nova" is capable of sampling up to 8 channels of EEG from up to 21 different 10-20 locations. For up to 16 channels of measurement, see our Supernova & 16-channel R&D Kit. Additional sensors can be connected to the GPIO pins of the mounted OpenBCI Board, and connected to other parts of the body as well.

The Ultracortex Mark III “Nova” is our latest 3D-printed Biosensing Headset. It is a solid upgrade from the original Mark III released last Fall. The headset is designed to be almost entirely 3D-printable by means of any desktop 3D printer—such as the LulzBot TAZ 5. The headset uses spring-loaded, dry, Ag-AgCl electrodes. No more messy gel! It is highly modular and designed to be adjustable for maximum comfort and signal quality.

This product can be purchased as ‘Print It Yourself’, with the expectation that you’ll be doing all of the 3D-printing, or ‘Unassembled’ where you receive all of the parts, but you still need to assemble the headset yourself. In addition, we are now offering a ‘Pro-Assembled’ version. If you select this option, you will receive a professionally-assembled headset, ready for use with no assembly required! Don't forget to buy a board, however. The Ultracortex Mark III is intended for use with any of the OpenBCI board kits (sold separately):

One of the great things about the Ultracortex design is how fast it is to get it up-and-running. Adjusting the headset for different head shapes and sizes is easy. All you have to do is twist the nut in the electrode holder. Once you adjusted the electrode holders at the various frame nodes, you can put the headset on and get up to 16 channels of EEG data streaming in under 30 seconds. Check out the video below!
